Jayda Medrano-Moore, 16, of Greenbelt, was pronounced dead after a shooting near DuVal High School, where she was a student, authorities confirmed.

The Prince George's County Police Department were called to the intersection of Palamear Drive and Woodstream Drive in Lanham on Monday, Sept. 11 to investigate a reported shooting.

Police say that before 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, Medrano-Moore was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition, prompting lockdowns at DuVal High School and Robert Goddard Middle School, which both had activities going on at the time.

The agency later confirmed that the girl died from her injuries.

The lockdowns were lifted around 5:15 p.m. on Monday.

A Prince George's Public Schools spokesperson said that there will be counselors and mental health professionals on campus on Tuesday for students and staff.

Information about the shooter has not been released by the police as they continue to work to develop additional information. A $25,000 reward has been offered by the department for tipsters who help lead to an arrest and prosecution.
